MacEwan University’s Department of Art and Design is seeking two full-time artist-educators in Studio Art at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the theory, practice and history of contemporary art. They will have a commitment to critical thinking and contemporary art practice, working in or across a range of media and environments in at least two of the following areas: sculpture and spatial practice, time-based media (digital video, sound art), contemporary and extended approaches to 2D visual art (e.g. painting, drawing, photography), digital art (e.g. networked, generative or interactive screen-based practice); performance art, social practice, or emerging forms.
The preferred candidate will hold a terminal degree (MFA), with an active exhibition practice at the national level (Assistant Professor) and international level (Associate Professor), with evidence of ongoing research-creation. They will have a minimum three years (Assistant Professor)) or five years (Associate Professor) teaching post-secondary art at all undergraduate levels, demonstrating excellence in teaching foundations for contemporary art practice, a commitment to indigenizing curriculum, vision and experience towards developing new approaches to teaching art at the undergraduate level and excellent communication skills.
The Department of Art and Design is situated within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications (FFAC) of MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta. In September 2017 FFAC moved into Allard Hall, it’s new state-of-the-art facility located in close proximity to the downtown arts district.
