The Department of Public Safety & Justice Studies encompasses three programs: Emergency Communications & Response certificate, Correctional Services diploma and Police and Investigations diploma. These programs focus on equipping students with the knowledge and skills required to build safe, secure and just communities. Faculty members with strong connections to professional practice prepare students to protect and serve our communities.

The Department of Public Safety & Justice Studies invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2019; subject to final budgetary approval.

Areas of professional expertise that are of particular interest to the department include emergency communications (fire, police, EMS, highly specialized communication centres), emergency planning, scene investigations, and/or security and risk planning and response. The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of interdisciplinary practice and demonstrate knowledge of legal issues, ethics, and relevant legislation within the public safety and criminal justice field. Field placement coordination will be an expectation of this position, therefore an understanding of, and experience with, this area is an asset.

Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years professional experience in the field of emergency communications, private or corporate security management, public safety or a related field. Academic credentials should include a Masters degree in a related field. Consideration will be given to candidates with a Masters degree in progress. Teaching experience and a strong understanding of the principles of adult education and curriculum development will be strong assets for the successful candidate.  In addition, the candidate will have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and be able to work as a collaborative team member.
