Opportunity

The Educational Assistant is a member of the team of Services to Students with Disabilities whose mission is to foster the full and self-directed participation of students with disabilities at the University.  The Educational Assistant's role is to provide assistive services and to facilitate the provision of the academic accommodations determined, by the professional resource staff of Services to Students with Disabilities, to be necessary to achieve the goal of full participation for each student with a disability.

This is a casual opportunity.

Qualifications

•    Bachelor of Education, Disability Studies, Rehabilitation or related degree
•    Educational Assistant certificate or diploma combined with a minimum of 5 years related experience

Skills and Abilities

•    Ability to work within and contribute to building and maintaining an effective team environment
•    Creative and effective problem-solving skills
•    Strong customer service skills
•    Highly developed ability to support individuals experiencing emotional distress effectively
•    Highly developed ability to manage behaviour considered to be outside the norm
•    Strong word processing skills including keyboarding
•    Proficiency with standard computer technology and specialized assistive technology (including, but not limited to, text to speech, enlargement, accessibility tools, voice recognition, etc.)
•    Effective written and oral communication skills
•    Clear speaking ability (for audio recording purposes)
•    Flexibility in a work environment that is subject to frequent change
