Director, Employee Compensation, Wellness & Development
MacEwan University inspires students with a powerful combination of academic excellence and personal learning experiences – ours is a connected culture that focuses on learner-centered teaching, and on providing opportunities for students to grow and achieve.
The university provides a transformative education in a creative, collaborative and supportive learning environment. 19,000 full- and part-time students are enrolled in more than 65 programs: four-year undergraduate degrees, applied degrees, university transfer programs and one- and two-year diploma and certificates. Additional offerings include university preparation, English as an Additional Language, professional and personal development courses and workshops, corporate training and the Conservatory of Music.
MacEwan has created this critical new position to lead the compensation, wellness, benefits, pension, and employee development programs for MacEwan University. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Human Resources, the director is a key member of the HR leadership team and develops and executes a strategic and operational plan for the function within the overall context of the Institutional Strategic Plan. Leading a team of experienced professionals, the director ensures that key stakeholder needs are identified, programs are benchmarked against appropriate external organizations, and that creative and impactful solutions are implemented. The director proactively partners with groups across the university on areas of integration or interdependency to develop mutually beneficial programs for employees. In addition, the incumbent will be required to participate in Government of Alberta stakeholder consultation on Total Rewards-related topics and see any legislated changes that impact MacEwan University through to successful implementation.
Proven Leadership – a strategic thinker with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, the director engages and motivates the team to continuously improve quality of work and service to internal and external clients.
Results Focus – the director uses qualitative and quantitative data to make decisions and track progress against goals and takes care to measure how results are achieved as much as the results themselves.
Stakeholder Engagement – the incumbent establishes credibility and builds relationships quickly with internal and external stakeholders while seeking to understand the unique needs of the faculties and departments within the University.
Project Management – The director clearly defines accountabilities, collaborates with others, clarifies measures of success, and plans and executes project deliverables on time, on budget, within defined scope, and with the right level of quality. New initiatives are moved into ongoing operations seamlessly.
Change Management – The incumbent ensures that affected groups are identified and the impact of the change upon them is well understood. Leadership involvement, training, and communications tools are used to mitigate risks associated with change and to ease implementation.
