IT Security Coordinator

MacEwan University is seeking an experienced IT Security Coordinator to join our IT Compliance and Information Security department which is responsible for IT and Cyber security.

Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer, the IT Security Coordinator will be key to the development, implementation and maintenance of a control framework of policies, standards, procedures and guidelines which will be monitored to ensure that the university’s practices remain observant of all IT policies, applicable laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.

Through the implementation and monitoring of the compliance program, the IT Security Coordinator will provide leadership to various areas of the university assisting them to manage and meet their IT and cyber security compliance obligations. This position is responsible for monitoring, implementing and testing of all IT security controls to determine their effectiveness, and driving remediation activities to address control deficiencies. This position is a key member of the Universities IT security response team.

In this role, the IT Security Coordinator will work with non-IT compliance professionals in areas such as legal, audit, investigation and enterprise risk management to ensure organizational alignment. Through awareness activities, this position will be responsible for reinforcing an organizational culture of compliance to IT controls such that the culture underpins all decisions made daily across the institution


• Broad understanding of Virtualization, Linux and Windows operating systems, campus and datacenter networks and fabrics, firewalls and load balancers.
• Knowledge of core network protocols (primarily TCP/IP) and services such as DNS, DHCP, Shibboleth (SAML2), and Radius.
• Experience managing and performing penetration testing and vulnerability assessment of web applications and server operating environments and facilitating the interpretation and remediation of results
• Experience collecting, managing and analyzing vast amounts of logs for IT security purposes
• An ability to demonstrate a variety of IT systems architecture talents
• An ability to perform and facilitate a variety of IT based risk assessments
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor
• Strong written and verbal skills
• The ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound
