The Department of Public Safety & Justice Studies encompasses three programs: Police and Investigations diploma, Correctional Services diploma, and Emergency Communications & Response certificate. These programs focus on equipping students with the knowledge and skills required to build safe, secure and just communities. Faculty members with strong connections to professional practice prepare students to protect and serve our communities.
The Department of Public Safety & Justice Studies invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2020, subject to final budgetary approval.
The ideal candidate will have an in-depth investigative background and professional expertise as an investigator/security manager in a corporate or workplace environment with a focus on investigative practices, law, emergency and risk management, and security programs. The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of interdisciplinary practice and demonstrate knowledge of legal issues, ethics, and relevant legislation within the public safety and criminal justice field.
Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years professional experience in the field of investigations, private/corporate security management, emergency management, public safety, or a related field. Academic credentials should include a minimum of a Master’s degree; consideration will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree in progress. Teaching experience and a strong understanding of the principles of adult education and curriculum development will be strong assets for the successful candidate. The candidate will also possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and be able to work as a collaborative team member.
In addition to an interdisciplinary teaching workload within the Department, the successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching undergraduate students and have a willingness to engage in service to the Department, Faculty, and University.
