Career Development and Experiential Learning (CDEL)

The university provides a transformative education in a creative, collaborative and supportive learning environment. 19,000 full- and part-time students are enrolled in more than 65 programs: four-year undergraduate degrees, applied degrees, university transfer programs and one- and two-year diploma and certificates. Additional offerings include university preparation, English as an Additional Language, professional and personal development courses and workshops, corporate training and the Conservatory of Music.

Opportunity

Career Development and Experiential Learning (CDEL) provides education, information, and support in various formats for MacEwan University, students, faculty and staff, employers, community partners, and alumni in the context of student career development. This role would be approximately 15 hours per week, and we are flexible around your class schedule. Preference will be given to students who are able and interested in continuing full-time in the summer of 2021 (returning as a student in Fall 2021).”

You will join a professional, positive team and will receive valuable training on advising skills, resume and cover letter writing, and interview preparation, which will help you in your future career. Additionally, you will gain experience with resource development, and participate in event planning and marketing to meet business objectives.

Position Requirements

  • Facilitate one-on-one meetings with students to provide feedback on resumes and cover letters.

  • Conduct mock interviews and provide feedback to help students improve their interview skills.

  • Assist full-time CDEL staff with special projects and initiatives, such as developing informational resources for key stakeholders.

  • Assist with event planning and marketing-related activities.

  • Maintain records of appointments on database and provide administrative support.

  • Deliver presentations for classes or student groups on resume writing, interview preparation and other career related topics.

Qualifications

  • Student status: enrolled in a MacEwan University program for the 2020-2021 academic year.

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Comfortable learning new programs and applications, such as MacEwanLife, our online communications platform.

  • Experience in advising roles is an asset.

Note: Students who are called in for an interview will be asked to complete a pre-interview test and prepare and present a 3-5 minute presentation on career development topic of their own choosing.
