IT Architecture and Development

The IT Architecture and Development team is looking for a Systems Analyst to take the role of Web Developer and DevOps Analyst. The Analyst is responsible for the development and maintenance of web applications and integrations between applications to support the university’s business processes. Candidates should be proficient full stack developers who are equally comfortable in front-end or back-end web application development. Being experienced, the Analyst provides direction to junior developers, and provides input into the development activities of the team.
The Analyst is also responsible for the creation of development and maintenance tasks in the DevOps role of the team, designing and creating configuration and deployment automation tasks using continuous integration and configuration automation tools. In this role, the Analyst will provide direction and leadership in the implementation of DevOps strategies, both on-premise and in the cloud, to other areas within MacEwan IT.
To be successful, the candidate will need a Bachelor’s degree in Computing Science or related fields. Alternatively, any Bachelor’s degree combined with relevant experience will be considered. The position requires an academic level of thinking and problem solving. Well-developed communication skills are necessary to interact with IT departments, application technical resources, and with vendors and other third parties.
The Analyst should have at least 5 years demonstrable experience in relevant web application development technologies, platforms, libraries and frameworks currently in use at the University, and be able to adhere to the University’s standards around coding and version control. Based on skill set and abilities, fewer years of experience and a strong willingness to learn will be considered. Experience with continuous integration tools and platform deployment and configuration automation will be considered an asset. The Analyst should be comfortable in a mixed Operating System environment with a primary focus on Linux.
