The School of Social Work at MacEwan University is located on the traditional lands of the First Nations and Métis peoples of Treaty 6 territory.
The School of Social Work in the Faculty of Health & Community Studies delivers a two-year Social Work Diploma and two-year (post two-year secondary education) Bachelor of Social Work degree. The diploma prepares students for entry-level social work practice and the BSW includes a focus on sustainability and practice with Indigenous peoples. Our programs educate students to integrate foundational social work theory, ethics and practice skills to prepare graduates for social work careers in a range of fields of practice within health, mental health and social services in governmental, for-profit and, non-profit organizations. Our programs concentrate on building social work generalist knowledge and skills for practice with individuals, children and families and communities.
The School of Social Work invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2021, subject to final budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong teaching skills, a commitment to the Social Work Code of Ethics, evidence of research and significant scholarly activity, and a willingness to engage in service to the school, university and community. Applicants will have knowledge in adult learning theory, curriculum design, and the capacity to teach in blended learning environments. Faculty members are required to teach a broad range of social work courses across the curriculum in both the BSW and Diploma programs.
Preferred candidates will hold, or will have nearly complete a Ph.D. in Social Work or a related discipline, and a Master’s degree in social work. Candidates will have post-MSW practice experience and experience teaching social work. Candidates will have a minimum of three-years combined teaching and practice experience. Candidates will have a clear and demonstrated program of social work related research. Candidates must be eligible to be a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in Alberta.
