Librarian I (Communications and Liaison)

The John L. Haar Library at MacEwan University is embarking on an exciting multi-year renovation plan and has a renewed library organization structure. The Library has a strong subject liaison model which we are committed to continuing and enhancing. We aspire to deliver evidence-based services and programs that support the strategic directions of MacEwan University. The library employs over 40 full-time employees, including 16 faculty librarians.

MacEwan University invites applications for a Tenure-Track position at the rank of Librarian I (Communications and Liaison), commencing July 1, 2021 at the John L. Haar Library. Serving a diverse community of learners, the ideal candidate will be flexible, innovative, and collaborative, with a genuine interest in and commitment to providing high quality services. The successful candidate will lead in the development and execution of the library’s communications strategy and lead our social media engagement program.

As a member of a dynamic team of professionals, the successful incumbent will also participate in the delivery of services including the teaching of information literacy, online and F2F reference, faculty liaison, and collection development. The subject liaison area will likely be programs in the School of Business.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to serve on Library Council, library and university committees, engage in professional development and scholarly activities, and participate in various projects and initiatives that advance the University’s vision and mission.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA accredited program is required

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in an academic library providing services including faculty liaison, information literacy instruction, and collection development

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective internal and external library communication strategies.

  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team environment

  • Ability to provide leadership on using a variety of communication tools and approaches including social media and data visualization to effectively connect with students, faculty and staff

  • Identify communication needs and develop appropriate solutions while working closely with library staff, external stakeholders, and university departments.

  • Demonstrated effective teaching ability

  • Experience in project management

  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
