Programs and courses at MacEwan are offered through several Faculties and Schools: Faculty of Arts and Science, Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications, Faculty of Health and Community Studies, Faculty of Nursing, School of Business, and School of Continuing Education.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, the Associate Vice-President, Students (AVPS) provides strategic and operational leadership for a diverse portfolio of student support services that will foster campus-wide engagement in student access, health, wellness, and growth. Recognized as a member of the Provost’s senior administration team and with a seat on the General Faculties Council, the AVPS is responsible for the planning, development, organization, and administration of student-related policy and services, and ensures a successful flow of information to and from student support areas and the rest of the University. The AVPS also collaborates closely with the Students’ Association of MacEwan University (SAMU).

A high-profile collaborative and transparent leader, the AVPS engages with and is responsive to a wide range of audiences, bridging students, staff, faculty, and administrative leadership. Acknowledging the importance of the student in MacEwan’s mandate, the AVPS will lead with enthusiasm, compassion, empathy, and dedication to build trust, to influence, and to inspire in a variety of settings across diverse demographics.

The AVPS will be a champion and advocate of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles, Indigenous engagement, and accessibility and disability resources. With an evolving undergraduate student body, this keystone role requires imagination, innovation, and creativity to build community and virtual engagement, enabling student success both inside and outside the campus environment.

The successful candidate will have substantial and progressive leadership and management experience of a significant service and support portfolio, preferably from a large and complex multi-stakeholder organization such as a postsecondary institution, healthcare, a substantial foundation, or the broader not-for-profit sector. Visionary, collaborative, respectful, strategic, decisive, politically astute, and able to operate effectively within a shared bicameral governance structure, the AVPS will cultivate an inclusive environment in which students, faculty, and staff feel a sense of community, while demonstrating an authentic and impactful understanding and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion principles, as well as to Indigenous cultures.
