The Student Assistant position is part of the MacEwan University Student Life team and works collaboratively with other staff and students to create the best possible engagement experiences for our students. The person in this role will be assisting with student programming both and New Student Orientation events (NSO), and First-Year Experience (FYE) and supporting students at the Welcome Centre in Building 7. The position will be a blend of on-campus and virtual office hours working from home.
Duties for the Student Assistant may include, but are not restricted to:
Planning and implementation of student programming;
Marketing and recruiting participants for FYE;
Event planning for student events;
Researching best practice in student engagement initiatives;
Providing administrative support to the FYE and NSO programs;
Establishing and maintaining communication with students through social media and other technology platforms; and
Following a communication plan to successfully reach out to FYE students.
Providing support to students and guest to the university at the Welcome Centre in Buiding 7.
The Student Assistant will report to the Manager, Student Life. This part-time student worker position from January 4, 2021 – March 30, 2021, will be 15 – 17.5 hours a week; with an occasional shift in the evenings to accommodate student programming.
Applicants must be a current MacEwan student entering their second or subsequent year; any student outside of MacEwan will not be considered. The applicant must be passionate about supporting students, have excellent organizational skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and experience in public speaking would be an asset. The successful incumbent will have demonstrated leadership, strong problem-solving skills, and professionalism. Technological competencies in Google documents and social media would be essential. Experience as a MacEwan University student leader is beneficial.
