In conjunction with the Government of Canada, MacEwan University is offering students the opportunity to apply their education and skills in the workplace through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program. CSJ is a 6 to 23 week employment program between April 26, 2021 and February 26, 2022.

Opportunity

The Student Life Department is seeking a student to fill the role of Business Receptionist (NOC 1414). This is a full-time (32 - 35 hours per week) position from July 5 – August 31, 2021. This position has the potential to continue as a part-time opportunity from September 2021 – April 2022 (eligible for enrolled MacEwan Students Only).

The Business Receptionist position will assist with the day-to-day processes and procedures for the Welcome Centre, located in the heart of MacEwan University in Building 7. They need to ensure a positive, welcoming, and informative experience for individuals entering the University. The Student Assistant will be the first point of contact for all visitors and the information point for stakeholders. It will provide a culture of exceptional customer service and enhance a student’s overall educational experience.

The position consists of greeting future students, guests and visitors to MacEwan University and connecting them with appropriate support services, executive offices, schools, faculties, and departments. A successful candidate for this position will also assist current students with the navigation of the MyMacEwan system, various applications, and other university resources. This position will also work closely with the Welcome Centre Administrative Assistant and the Manager of Student Life. The Business Receptionist will support the coordination of campus tours by scheduling MacEwan Tour Guides and MacEwan Student Ambassadors to conduct campus tours; with the potential of giving campus tours to prospective students and guests themselves. Experience with document/email design in an office setting would be considered an asset.

Skills

The ideal candidate must have strong customer service experience, excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent organizational skills, strong verbal, and written communication.

Qualifications

• Experience with Microsoft applications and Google applications is required.
• Experience with Canva, Facebook and Discord would be considered an asset.

To be eligible, youth must:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
• have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
