MacEwan University has a long-standing history of providing quality nursing education that prepares graduates to lead and succeed in nursing practice, and beyond. The Faculty of Nursing includes the Departments of: Nursing Foundations; Human Health and Science; Nursing Practice; Health Systems and Sustainability; and Professional Nursing and Allied Health. Courses delivered within these five departments are affiliated with the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing, the Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing, and other continuing education credentials and learning experiences. The Faculty of Nursing also oversees the Clinical Simulation Centre, which mobilizes 27,000 ft2 of innovative teaching space to advance learning of students in various nursing and health programs.

Opportunity

The Faculty of Nursing is seeking a creative and knowledgeable Associate Dean to help update, implement, and maintain our vision for excellence in undergraduate nursing education. Applications are invited for a Tenured appointment as Associate Professor in the Faculty of Nursing (Continuing, Non-Probationary Status). The successful candidate will initially serve as the Associate Dean of the Faculty for a 3-year renewable term.  

You will work closely with the Dean and provide tactical and operational support to the Faculty. You will actively collaborate with the Dean, chairs, faculty, staff and other university members in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of academic programs, strategic initiatives, and day-to-day operations of the Faculty. You will serve on relevant department, university, and external committees, applying your expertise and understanding of nursing education.

Your responsibilities as Associate Dean may vary from year to year, as determined by the Dean, and generally fall into the following areas: managing the implementation of nursing programs and student admissions; facilitating program development and curriculum renewal; coordinating clinical learning and advising processes for nursing programs; fostering a culture of, and processes to support, research & scholarship; facilitating faculty development opportunities and leading innovative pedagogy to support strong student achievement. Together with the Dean, the Associate Dean provides integral leadership and direction for collaborative initiatives within the University and with community stakeholders, professional associations, and other post-secondary institutions.
   
Under the direction of the Dean, you will provide operational leadership in the Faculty of Nursing and demonstrate a strong commitment to governance as well as faculty, staff, and student success.

You hold a doctoral degree with at least one graduate degree in Nursing or a related field. You have unencumbered licensure with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) and/or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). You have recent university administrative experience, preferably in chair, director or associate dean roles, and a track record of excellent teaching. You have an established program of research and have demonstrated leadership in developing and participating in academic governance processes. You have built, revised, and worked with nursing curricula, and have a passion for establishing student-centered learning experiences. You are able to administer collective agreements, clinical placement contracts, and a shared governance model of operations within a postsecondary environment. You are a clear communicator with an ability to problem solve efficiently and collaboratively. You possess networking skills and an ability to coordinate and organize multiple complex tasks.
