Opportunity

MacEwan University Sport and Wellness is seeking a student to fill the role of Recreation Assistant. The Recreation Assistant will be the on-site leader of recreation leagues, tournaments, and special events.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the marketing and delivery of recreation leagues and programs

  • Assisting with set-up and takedown of league supplies and equipment

  • Managing conflict by addressing disciplinary issues with participants

  • Assisting with the hiring, training, and mentoring of league staff and referees

  • Assisting in the planning and delivery of events and tournaments

  • Being the on-site coordinator for the end of season League Bash and present prizing to winners

  • Attending regular recreation meetings

Skills

  • Energetic and enthusiastic – ready to have fun

  • Work effectively with a team, as well as independently

  • Interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills

  • Demonstrate positive leadership qualities

  • Organized and detail-oriented; ability to multitask; ability to manage time and schedules

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of sport (i.e. rules, format, rosters, and equipment set-up) is an asset

  • Experience in recreation and event management is an asset

  • Knowledge of sport and recreation and/or experience in event management is an asset

  • Ability to lift and push equipment in excess of 50 lbs (22 kg) during set-up and take-down tasks

  • Standard First Aid certification is an asset

 Position Requirements

  • Expected to work a minimum of 4 hours per week during league hours (Sunday afternoons and/or weekday evenings)

  • May be required to work additional hours for special events and tournaments
