Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking applicants for a full-time continuing Aquatics Programmer position with our Sport and Wellness Department. You will be responsible for assisting with the overall administration of aquatic programs and services and working as a lifeguard and instructor, assisting students, staff, faculty, and the public to enjoy a safe aquatic experience and meet their health and swimming goals.

Your responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Development and administration of area programs for the facility that meet the needs of students, staff, faculty, and public clientele.

  • Assist with the administration of rental and user group bookings which include individuals and groups both external and internal to MacEwan University Sport and Wellness, and respond to customer inquires related to area programs and services

  • Assist with developing, implementing, and evaluating a staff training program; monitoring the Aquatic Safety and Supervision Plan, policies and procedures, and overall risk management strategy; and providing leadership, guidance, and direction to the aquatic team.

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques employed in water safety and lifesaving activities

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills

  • Ability to work with a diverse range of clients and colleagues

  • Ability to respond well under pressure

  • Strong computer skills in a Windows-based environment

  • Flexible, self-motivated, and able to work independently

  • Able to work flexible work hours, including shift work, rotating schedules, evenings, and weekends

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma, preferably in recreation or related field

  • Current certifications in the following awards (Instructor and Trainer status is an asset):

  • National Lifeguard (pool option)

    • Swim and Lifesaving Instructor

    • Standard First Aid/CPR (Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC) preferred)

    • Oxygen Administration

    • Aquatic Supervisor Training (AST) an asset

    • Pool Operator Level 1 an asset

    • WHMIS

    • AFLCA or WaterArt or equivalent an asset

    • NCCP Level 1/2 and/or Recreational Coach an asset

  • Minimum two years as a lifeguard and instructor (preferable of the Lifesaving Society awards)

  • Prior programming experience

  • Previous experience as a head lifeguard and/or pool operator is an asset.

  • Experience working with Intelli are assets
