MacEwan University invites applicants for a full-time continuing Manager, Library Operations position with our Library Department. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Library, you are accountable for the effective operation of the John L. Haar Library. You will be a crucial member of the Library's management team.
You will manage all library support staff (except for Library IT), including library services, writing centre, makerspace, archives, scholarly communications, and collection services. You will work collaboratively with library faculty unit coordinators and the Director, Financial Operations, to ensure the effective operation of all Library services and projects.
Strong leadership and management skills
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Solid technology skills and the ability to learn new programs quickly and with minimal support
Knowledge of academic library operations and the important role that the library plays in the success of post-secondary students
Capacity to take decisive action where appropriate and to gather the correct information to facilitate decision making
Understanding of staff collective agreements and management's responsibilities to consult and report as appropriate
Innovative and creative thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate ideas and initiatives effectively to generate excitement and support
Exemplary professional conduct and adherence to the university's Code of Conduct policies
Ability to handle a challenging workload and to prioritize many competing demands
A passion for self-improvement and lifelong learning and skills development
Ability to support staff in the development of their technology skills as needed
A skilled researcher and resource manager to support the ongoing learning needs of students and department staff
Strong attention to detail
A high degree of initiative and good judgment
Team builder who can create a positive and highly professional team in service of students
Library Technician diploma plus an undergraduate degree is required.
Experience using an integrated library system for circulation and other functions
Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible library experience, including supervisory/management experience, preferably in circulation services
Experience with using an ILS, particularly the circulation, reserve, and fines modules.
Experience with Sirsi Dynix Symphony is an asset
