Library Technician (Scholarly Communications)

MacEwan University seeks highly skilled individuals for a full-time continuing Library Technician (Scholarly Communications) position with the John L. Haar Library. The Library Technician (Scholarly Communications) assists with the operational and frontline service requirements of the library’s research repository, data repository, and open access web publishing platforms.
You will provide technical support and respond to general inquiries from faculty and student users of these services while helping to maintain operational documentation, perform copyright assessments, review metadata, and support training and promotion strategies. You will also participate in the provision of reference and circulation services.
Experienced in the use of library-related technology tools and systems
Familiarity with open access publishing and repository platforms
Familiarity with copyright, including creative commons licensing
Familiarity with metadata standards
Familiarity with spreadsheet applications and content management platforms
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good organizational and leadership skills
Analytical in their approach to problem-solving
Strong public service orientation
Ability to effectively prioritize competing tasks and adapt to rapidly changing technical environments
Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Graduate of a two-year library technician program from an accredited institution
Two years of additional post-secondary education in related fields such as communications or information technology, or equivalent work experience
Previous experience as a library technician in a public service area is preferred
Experience with computer applications including Microsoft Office and bibliographic library databases
Experience providing circulation and reference services in a post-secondary (or large public) library and familiarity with a wide variety of print, audiovisual and electronic reference sources is an asset
