Opportunity

MacEwan University seeks high-skilled individual for a full-time continuing Technician IV System Administrator position with our IT, Infrastructure and Operations Department. The Technician IV System is responsible for optimizing server infrastructure and related components to achieve high availability and performance of the various core business services and applications supported by the department.

Responsibilities of this position include planning, installing, configuring, administering, securing, and tuning the IT infrastructure components, services, and applications across the organization in a timely and efficient manner.

Skills

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the following technologies:

    • Infrastructure hardware including servers, storage devices (disks, SAN, NAS and tape libraries), network and SAN fabric switches, KVM remote control hardware

    • Data center and communication room infrastructure including racks, cabling, UPS, power, and cooling

    • Server virtualization technology and infrastructure

    • Real-time infrastructure monitoring including device hardware, operating systems, resource utilization and capacity, application, and environmental conditions

    • Basic IP networking

    • Network services including DNS, DHCP, and NTP

    • Server operating system including one or more of the following: Microsoft Windows, UNIX/Linux, OSX and Solaris

    • Shell or command line programming and scripting

    • Knowledge and experience with cloud services including but not limited to SaaS, IaaS, PaaS.

    • Endpoint management and security

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and excellent customer service skills

  • Analytical problem-solving skills

  • Good business and technical writing skills

  • Work effectively and maintain composure in pressure situations during major IT service emergencies

  • Learn and adapt quickly to new technology

  • Manage and prioritize multiple ongoing activities on a regular basis

  • Manage change effectively

  • Self-motivated to independently resolve complex problems using current job knowledge, research data, and available resources

  • Ability to participate in a team environment, promote team cohesiveness and group synergy to bring forward new ideas and make concepts a reality

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in IT related discipline

  • Equivalent combination of related education and experience

  • ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Foundations Certification

  • Minimum four years’ experience working in a complex multi-site IT operations environment

  • Experience participating in project-related activities in a complex technical environment

  • Experience in dealing effectively with technical and non-technical clients
