New benefit-eligible employees are covered by flexible benefits plan beginning on the first day of their employment. Check the Collective Agreements and Employment Policy for Out of Scope Employees for eligibility details.
The flexible benefits plan provides a range of health and dental options together with comprehensive insurance coverage so that employees can make choices that support personal
wellness and optimal health—whatever that means to each employee and their family.
The flexible benefits plan includes five main areas of coverage:

Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) - Provided by Great West Life and administered by Shepell, this service provides employees with confidential and professional assistance to help employees and their families to resolve a variety of lifestyle problems or challenges.

MacEwan University Sport and Wellness - Interested in learning to swim or participating in an exercise class? MacEwan employees receive a membership discount at the Sport and Wellness. You will have access to our fitness area, pool, steams rooms and 40-person hot tub, our gymnasium and squash/racquetball courts.

Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) - An integral part of any total compensation package, a pension plan is one of the most valuable assets that an employer can provide its employees.
MacEwan offers the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) to all eligible employees. A defined benefit plan, based on both employee and employer contributions, your pension at retirement is a based upon a formula that includes your length of pensionable service and your highest five-year average pensionable salary.
