We are committed to creative approaches to sustainability in all that we do—campus operations, course development, student leadership, academic credentials. Our initiatives include raising our own honey bees, advocating for cycle commuters and leading with vision. Guided by our strategic campus sustainability plan, we empower individuals and groups to solve sustainability challenges.

Kerstyn can often be spotted sharing tips about resliency with students around campus. She’s a cyclist, yogi, hula hooper and community builder. For Kerstyn, facilitating connections across campus makes her team’s goals achievable, whether it’s hosting an Earth Hour Race or encouraging students and staff to start innovative and forward-thinking conversations. In the near future, she hopes to see more students taking on projects they’re passionate about.

Kalen understands that sustainability is about more than recycling and saving the bees (although she really loves bees). It’s about finding a balance between ecological integrity, economic vitality, social equity and cultural continuity. Kalen sets and achieves admirable goals for the office — but she sets equally admirable goals for herself. She’s an avid canoer, a lifetime learner, and an advocate for healthy built environments that promote connectivity and well-being. Kalen hopes the sustainability team will continue to empower people on campus to take on innovative and inspiring initiatives that will make our future a little brighter.
