Now in its second year, the MacEwan Explorers Summer Camp is offering a number of educational, on-campus adventures for kids aged six to 10. Each themed camp is grounded in ELM’s promise to grow a community of mighty learners and provides campers with innovative, hands-on learning experiences.

Enrol your mighty learners in Summer Camp

The camps span multiple disciplines and include a range of activities including:

  • Hands-on examination of artifacts, fossils, plant materials, and a variety of bone fragments
  • Generating chemical reactions
  • Learning how to code with Microsoft experts
  • Studying bugs and hissing cockroaches
  • Identifying and creatively solving a local challenge
  • Learning how to run a sustainable and socially responsible business
  • Singing songs
  • Experiential art activities

The MacEwan Explorers camps take place at MacEwan University from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will be a combination of indoor and outdoor activities to engage your child's inner learner and explorer! At the end of each day, your child will receive a bracelet charm. By the end of the week, they will take home a complete bracelet that represents their completion of the MacEwan Explorers Summer Camp. Hot lunch will also be provided at an additional cost—just select it at registration.


July 9-13 Investigating the Past: Exploring Alberta's rich history

Ages 6-9

Explorers will examine Alberta's rich history through hands-on activities. With guidance from museum staff, they come together and identify tooth casts from mysterious ice age animals, artifacts, plant materials and a variety of bone fragments. Explorers will also work alongside anthropologists to discover new tools, excavate a site and identify animal skeletons.

July 16-20 Scientific Discoveries: Becoming a scientist - SOLD OUT

Ages 6-9

Experience campus through the eyes of a scientist! The explorers will participate in generating chemical reactions, investigating fresh and saltwater ecosystems, study bees with urban beekeeping experts, study bugs (including hissing cockroaches) and more.

The explorers will also discover the world of computer science through hands-on coding activities from Microsoft experts. This camp is supported by MacEwan University’s Faculty of Arts and Science and Microsoft.

August 7-10 Mission Possible: An entrepreneurial exploration

Ages 7-10

In collaboration with Roundhouse and MacEwan University’s School of Business, the explorers will design, market, and sell their own products. By week’s end, each child will have created their very own entrepreneurial pop-up stand. Profits will go to a charitable organization of their choice.

August 13-17 Community Superheroes: Innovative solutions to local challenges

Ages 7-10

In collaboration with Roundhouse and the Social Innovation Institute, explorers will have an opportunity to become community superheroes and work collaboratively to develop innovative social solutions for local challenges. This camp will focus on teamwork and collaboration to turn their ideas into a reality. Campers will use Lego to create a visual representation of their solution. By week’s end campers will have discussed, designed and developed a solution that will be brought to life using 3D printer.
