Sport and Wellness offers leadership courses to further your training and career in aquatics. Bronze Medals, National Lifeguard program, Lifesaving instructor and First Aid courses are some of the offerings available. Successful completion of leadership programs requires attendance of all classes. No late registrations.

Spring/Summer Aquatic Certifications will not be running as the pool is closed April 9* to early Fall for tile replacement.
*First Aid Instructor course on April 28-29 will still be running.

Bronze Medallion/ Bronze Cross This combined course will help develop an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. This advanced course is designed for those who want a challenge, including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is the prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. This course includes CPR C certification.

The National Lifeguard program develops basic lifeguarding skills, principles, and decision-making process to help lifeguards evaluate and adapt to different aquatic facilities and emergencies. Aquatic Emergency Care provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR, equivalent to Standard First Aid, as well as skills specific to emergencies in an aquatic setting. Oxygen Administration provides the knowledge and techniques for the use of oxygen as a supplement in an emergency care situation.

Lifesaving  Instructor The Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner: With this program you will be trained to teach and evaluate Canadian Swim Patrol Program, as well as the Bronze Medals and Distinction certifications. You will be trained in various approaches required to teach water rescue, first aid, and related aquatic skills. Candidates also learn about long-range and short-term planning, class management, safety supervision and the principles of evaluation. The Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner certification is the prerequisite for all other Lifesaving Society instructor certifications. Certification in Alberta & Northwest Territories includes Advanced Instructor, Examination Standards Clinic, and Lifesaving CPR Instructor/ Examiner certifications.
