Intramural Leagues

Intramural leagues are open to everyone! You can sign up for a league as a full team or as an individual. If you do not have a full team, we can build a team for you! This is a great way to get active and meet like-minded people. MacEwan University Recreation is committed to providing sport and recreational opportunities for physical and social interaction that fulfill all degrees of interest at all skill levels of participation.

Deadlines apply for both individual and team registrations.
Participants can register for both semesters at any point prior to the registration deadlines.


How to Register

Follow and complete the steps below to properly complete the Intramural League registration process.

1. Pay your Fee

  • Payment can only be done in person at the Sport and Wellness Welcome Desk (Building 8, 10800-105 Avenue).

2. Complete online Registration Form

  • Individual Registration Form
  • Team Registration Form

3. Complete Online Waiver

  • All individuals are required to complete an Intramural League Waiver prior to participation. This waiver is valid for both the Fall 2017 and the Winter 2018 semester. Only 1 waiver is required per person for all leagues during this time period. 
  • Online (MacEwan University students and staff only). MyMacEwan / MacEwan portal login is required when completing your waiver online. 
  • Downloadable Form this form may be downloaded, printed, and brought to your first league game of the season.

4. Review our Policies and Procedures

5. Online Quiz

  • The captain and the assistant captain are required to complete the quiz with an 80% passing grade (anything less is considered a fail).
  • Participants can take the quiz as many times as you need in order to achieve the score.
  • Fall 2017 quizzes must be completed by Friday, September 29, 2017.
  • Winter 2018 quizzes must be completed by Friday, January 26, 2018.

Registration Information

Registration Types: 

1. Full Team – captains register a full team to build their own roster and decide themselves how many teammates to include.

  • The more players on the roster, the lower the cost per player.
  • Full Team fees are paid for in full at the time of registration.
  • There is no maximum roster size for a Full Team registration.               

2. Individual – players register individually. MacEwan University adds more players to the roster to form a full team.

  • MacEwan University manages the size and composition of the final roster and will always attempt to build ideal team rosters. However, teams could include more or less players than the ideal roster size, depending on registrations in that particular sport or division.
  • Individual fees are paid in full at the time of registration.
  • Participants can state on their registration form if they would like to play with another person(s).  

Registration Includes: 

  • Facility access (for students enrolled in 6 credits a semester).
  • 7 or 8 weeks of league play (6 or 7 regular season games and 1 finals game).
  • Qualified student staff, student referees, and/or certified officials.
  • A participation t-shirt (please see the Participation T-Shirt Eligibility section in our Policies and Procedures document).
  • Additional prizes for league champs and spirit award winners.
  • A cool place to meet new friends and have fun.


  • Refunds will not be granted after program registrations close.
  • If a program does not run due to low participation, refunds will be granted.

League Information

Who Can Play:

  • Anyone 18 years of age and over (MacEwan University students exempt).
  • Current varsity athletes are not allowed to play in an intramural league that is the same as their varsity sport.
  • Participants may only register and play for one team per intramural league; participants can play in multiple leagues.
  • All participants must have valid photo ID in order to participate in any league every night.

Intramural League Access Pass:

  • Participants who do not have access into our facilities, may purchase a discounted Intramural League Access Pass for $40 from the Welcome Desk.  
  • Transferable between teammates.
  • Expires June 30th of each calendar year.
  • Allows for 8 visits (our leagues run a maximum of 8 weeks per semester).

Defaults and Forfeits

What is a Forfeit?

  • The result of a team providing appropriate notice that they will be unable to meet the minimum participant or gender requirements for their league.
  • For weekday leagues, before noon (12 pm) on the day of the event is considered appropriate notice.
  • For weekend leagues, before noon (12 pm) on the Friday prior is considered appropriate notice.

What Happens When a Team Forfeits?

  • The does not lose any of their deposit.
  • The opposing team is contacted in advance to be made aware of the situation.
  • Two forfeits = 1 default.

What is a Default?

  • A default occurs when, at the scheduled game start time, a team has fewer than the minimum amount of required players and did not contact the office prior to the game.
  • If a team chooses to leave early and quit the game for any reason, including a lack of players, the team will also be subject to the default rules.

What Happens When a Team Defaults?

  • First default- team loses$25 of their deposit.
  • Second Default- team loses$25 of their deposit and are subject to league removal
  • Individual teams are responsible for avoiding defaults by informing their teammates when/ if they can't attend a game so that a replacement player can be found.
  • Individual teams are not charged a default deposit.

Players who want to try out a new sport or get in the action without committing to a full season are encouraged to join our MacEwan University Recreation – Substitutions Facebook group. Becoming a sub is easy and best of all, it's free!  This group is a valuable resource for teams who need to recruit extra players throughout the season.

  • The majority of your team (at least 50% of the players that attend the game) need to dress up.
  • It's optional for players to wear their costume during the game.
  • All participants must have closed toe shoes on when participating.


  • It's fun to dress up!
  • Teams will receive an extra 2 spirit points in their overall standings.
