MacEwan vs NAIT Challenge

Join your fellow students, staff, and faculty as we take on year 2 of our MacEwan vs. NAIT Challenges. These challenges are Free for everyone to participate in. Individual prizes are available for top performers and also drawn at random!

Fall Challenges

Jersey Day

Show your love and support for sport by wearing your favourite jersey on Friday, November 17! The school with more people wearing jerseys and posting photos wins! In addition, the school that raises more money for KidSport also wins!

How to enter:
Step 1: Join us at 12 p.m. in the MUSW Gym to take a large MacEwan University group photo AND/OR Post a photo of you and your friends/coworkers wearing a Jersey using #MacEwanRec. 
Step 2: Join us at 7 p.m. as the Griffins Men’s Hockey takes on the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings! Donate your ticket sales to KidSport and don’t forget to wear your favourite Jersey!

Donations to KidSport can be made online or collected at the Welcome Desk. Donations over $20+ are eligible for a tax receipt.

Bike Challenge

With a whopping 116.5 hours spent spinning, MacEwan leads 1-0 in our MacEwan vs. NAIT Challenge Series. The Bike Challenge was the first of five challenges happening this school year!

Winter Challenges

Treadmill Challenge

Take your pick: walking, light jogging, running, or sprinting! With the weather outside quite frightful, this week-long treadmill challenge encourages physical activity indoors. Track your treadmill distance from Jan 22-26 at the MacEwan University Sport and Wellness fitness centre desk! The school with the longer cumulative participant distance wins! Any and all distance on the treadmill during this week counts toward this Treadmill Challenge. Prizes will be drawn for participation and for the longest cumulative individual distance. 

Squat Challenge

The Squat! A functional full-body movement that targets glutes, quads, and core. It’s a natural movement pattern in your everyday life. Whether your goal is to increase strength or tone up for skiing or snowboarding season, the squat can help. Track your squat Reps from Feb 12-16 at the MacEwan University Sport and Wellness fitness centre desk! The school that tracks more squat reps wins! Any and all squat types count toward this Squat Challenge. Prizes will be drawn for participation and for the highest cumulative individual squat reps.

March-Your-Way-to-Fitness Challenge

Lace-up your runners MacEwan (or put on your 80’s aerobic attire), and we’ll see you in the studio! For the whole month of March, attend as many group fitness classes as you can and enter your name into the draw each time you participate. Fitness or Aquatic-based Registered programs, Value-Added classes, and Drop-In all count toward this challenge. Prizes will be drawn for participation and, also awarded to the individuals who attend the most group fitness classes in March. Winners announced April 2!

Yoga Rave

Yoga Rave Namaste! Or should we say “Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat”! This one of a kind event pairs the healthy lifestyle of yoga with the fun filled atmosphere of a rave. Qualified yoga instructors will lead participants through various yoga poses while local DJ’s spin hard hitting beats. Doors open at 6 p.m. and spots must be pre-purchased in advance! Entrance to this unique BYOM (Bring Your Own Mat). The Yoga Rave is open to everyone! Registration Deadline: Fri, Jan 18 at 12 p.m.

Where can I register?
Please pre-register either online or in-person at the MacEwan University Welcome Desk in Building 8. Registration is open until Thursday, Jan 18, 2018 at Noon
Will there be tickets available at the door?
Short Answer: Yes.
Long Answer: Spots are limited so we highly encourage you to pre-register. There will be no physical ticket sales at the door, guests will have to walk back to the Welcome Desk in Building 8.
Will I receive a printed ticket to the event?
No, please bring photo ID which we will match to our “Guest List”.
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Although this is a dry event, guests must be 18+* to attend. Valid photo ID must be presented at the time of sign-in. *Exceptions will made to MacEwan students ONLY who are 17 years old.
What time will doors be open?
Doors will be open at 6 p.m. and the Yoga portion of the event starts at 7 p.m.
What time does the Yoga/Dance portion of the event start?
Our guest instructors will start the yoga portion at 7:00pm. Prior to this, have some fun with body paint, glow sticks, the photo booth, social media, and the music!! Is there anything to do after the Yoga Rave is over? Yes! Stay and dance to the DJ’s sounds, more body painting, and snacks and treats.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Bring your ID, a YOGA MAT*, water bottle**, and yourself! Wear white, brightly coloured clothing, fun costumes, or tasteful rave clothing. Prepare to Glow-In-The-Dark with black lighting, glow sticks, and body paint!
*We have a few extra yoga mats to borrow in case you don’t have your own.
**Please do NOT bring glass water bottles or large gym bags.
Where is Paul Byrne Hall?
Paul Byrne Hall is located in room 9-115 of the Robbins Health Learning Centre (Building 9) at MacEwan University City Centre Campus. Access to this hall is from the 2nd floor West staircase of the building. The address is: 10524 110 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5H 3C5.

Winter Road Trip

Winter Road Trip- Dogsledding, Snowshoeing, Skating, Skiing/ Snowboarding

Paradise doesn’t have to be tropical… the snow and mountains are calling! This two-day Jasper-area trip allows you to experience dog-sledding, skating and/or snowshoeing and skiing/snowboarding in the majestic Canadian Rockies. From mushing a sled with furry huskies to the great downhill terrain at Marmot Basin Resort, you won’t want to miss this incredible weekend getaway.

ONLY 40 SPOTS AVAILABLE! Registration is in person only and opens at 7 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2017.  This trip is only open to MacEwan University students who have paid their Sport and Wellness Fee (enrolled in 6 or more credits/term at MacEwan University) and are 18 years of age or older. Registration is on a first-come first-served basis and you’ll need your MacEwan University student ID card.

Learn 2

Learn 2 Ski/ SnowboardAre you looking to try something new this Winter? Or are you interested in going on the Winter Road Trip but don’t know how to ski or snowboard? We can help you learn how to shred some powder with your awesome new moves! This Learn 2 program offers individuals an opportunity to gain the basic skills and knowledge required enjoy a new activity. Registration includes a lesson, ski or snowboard and helmet rental, and transportation to and from Rabbit Hill Snow Resort. No experience necessary.
