MacEwan University Sport and Wellness has certified Exercise Specialists with the highest credentials, giving you valuable, high-quality, professional service as you reach your lifestyle and fitness goals.

Our Trainers possess:

  • University degrees in physical education and sport studies.
  • Certifications with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiologists as Certified Exercise Physiologists or as Certified Personal Trainers.
  • Medical Exercise Specialist designation-an internationally recognized certification for fitness professionals working with special populations and post-rehabilitation clients

Alex Tonsi- BPE , CSCS and NCCP Level 1 Weightlifting (Theory)

Specialization at MacEwan University: Strength and Conditioning for athletes

Type of Clientele: People looking to increase athletic performance, general public wanting to increase quality of life

Activities & Recreation outside of work: Olympic Weightlifting, Golf, and spending time with friends and family.

Fun Fact: Worked as the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for The Edmonton Eskimos for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Amy Kemp- BPE, CSEP-CPT

Specialization at MacEwan: TRX group Fitness, Group Fitness Training, Social Media

Type of Clientele: anyone who wants to learn what to do in the Fitness Centre and people trying to get buff

Activities and Recreation outside of work: music, video games, psychology, long walks on the beach.

Fun Fact: “I once choreographed a dance to Gettin' Jiggy With It in Grade 4 for a school project, and after that, my teacher banned dance choreographies for school projects”

Anita DeBoer- BPE, CSEP-CEP

Specialization at MacEwan University: Older Adult classes, Group Fitness classes

Type of Clientele: Older adult and chronic disease

Activities & Recreation outside of work: be a busy mom!

Fun Fact: I bring the best snacks to all the staff inservices!

Cindy Hunt- CSEP CPT, AFLCA Group Fitness Instructor, AFLCA Aquatic Exercise Instructor

Specialization at MacEwan University: Pre and Post Natal Fitness, Older Adults, dance and choreography, Step.

Type of Clientele: Active Older Adults

Activities & Recreation outside of work: Dance, Swimming, mountain biking and watersliding (on hot days!)
