COVID Restrictions Update: June 10, 2021

On June 10, the province continued the progression of Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan.

As the province moves to Stage 2 of the plan, the following activities can resume: solo and drop-in activities; indoor fitness classes with 3-metre distancing and masks; youth activities including day camps with restrictions; and adult and youth sports (indoors and outdoors) resume with no restrictions.

Safety measures include:

  • Indoor recreation facilities can open at one-third of fire code occupancy.

  • A 3-metre physical distance must be maintained at all times.

  • Capacity of indoor fitness spaces, including spaces for group fitness classes, is limited to the number of people able to fit in the space while maintaining 3-metre distance from each other at all times.

  • Pools and hot tub within a fitness facility may operate at one-third capacity (2-metre distance between households).

  • Trainers and instructors may be able to come within a 3 metre distance of a client/participant for brief moments to correct form or help demonstrate. However, they must be masked during the interaction and sanitize hands before and after.

Masking is:

  • no longer required for exercise but is strongly encouraged for all participants, especially during indoor exercise classes or in small spaces with limited ventilation.

  • still required when not engaging in a fitness activity, while moving between fitness equipment, for example.

Our change rooms remain open only for pool users during this stage. We recommend fitness centre and class participants come dressed and ready to work out. Lockers in the fitness centre are available for outdoor shoes and clothing.

In-person programming

  • Sport and Wellness will be opening for the following programs and services starting June 14.

  • Fitness centre and pool use. Reservations are still required for fitness centre and pool time blocks to maintain occupancy requirements. Drop-in reservations can be made in person at the Welcome Desk, space permitting. Hot tub reservations may open next week.

  • Gymnasium drop-in. Bookings resume June 28 after scheduled maintenance is complete.

  • Personal training. Connect with your trainer or if you are a new client, fill out our online free consultation form for expert advice tailored to your fitness goals.

  • Registered private swim lessons. One-on-one and household private lessons.

  • Household pool rentals. 45-and 60-minute household pool rentals provide semi-private use of the teach and main pools for fitness or recreational use with 3-metre distancing between groups.

  • Value-Added classes. Advance registration is required for classes. Spin, City Centre Runners and Shallow/Deep Water Fitness are available in person. Older Adult fitness classes and HiLit will continue virtually.

  • Sport and Wellness Summer Recreation Camps. Registration is now open for camps, which include a half day in the pool and a half day dry-land sport activities or sport camps.

  • Ultimate sport league. Registration opens June 11.

Building hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. Monday to Friday and closed on weekends during Stage 2. Check online for reservation times.

The relationship between the people getting trained and the staff who interact with them is something I’ve never experienced in other centres. It feels as if everyone is rooting for you to succeed.
