MacEwan Big Band Live-streamed and In-person Fall Concert

December 8, 2021

The MacEwan University Big Band, now in its 47th year, continues to be the flagship ensemble of the Department of Music. Students gain experience performing historical and contemporary big band music. For 37 seasons it has been under the directorship of Professor Raymond Baril, and during that time it has had the distinct opportunity of working with internationally renowned musicians such as Maria Schneider, Bob Mintzer, Eddie Daniels, Ernie Watts, Dizzy Gillespie, as well as Edmonton’s own Tommy Banks and PJ Perry. They have been a featured ensemble at the Edmonton International Jazz Festival and music festivals across Canada and the US.

This one hour and a half live-streamed concert will feature the music from the libraries of Maria Schneider, Maynard Ferguson, Ella Fitzgerald, and Oscar Hernández by composers and arrangers such as Bill Holman, Fred Stride, Alan Baylock, and Pat Metheny.

Tickets available through MacEwan Box Office.

Live-stream available on YouTube.
