Torus Talks: Fibonacci – From Matrices to Power Series by Dr. Nicolae Strungaru

September 25, 2020

These are the Math and Stats Department Torus Talks — they are meant to showcase the beauty of mathematics in a low-key and fun way.

The talk by Dr. Nicolae Strungaru will provide a brief introduction to Combinatorics. We will use Fibonacci numbers to motivate the use of generating functions and show how these can be used for other counting problems. We will illustrate how one can use matrices and eigenvalues to solve some of the arising recurrences.

All in the university community are invited. Torus Talks are pitched to a general university audience, all students, staff and faculty are welcome.

This event will be presented online using Zoom. Please register to attend via form to receive information on how to join the morning of the event.
