Consultation
Planning is underway for the Integrated Strategic Plan: 2019/20 – 2023/24. Through a series of meetings with diverse groups from across campus, President Deborah Saucier kicked off the process in the summer of 2017. Consultations will continue until the plan is finalized and approved in fall of 2019. As well as providing input at consultation events, you are invited to email ideas directly to the president's office.

Develop the framework
July 2017 to May 2018
July to December 2017
Beginning shortly after she is hired, President Deborah Saucier meets with diverse sectors of the MacEwan community to learn about the university, its people, its values and its priorities.
January 2018
At two retreats, one with the Board of Governors and the other with Deans’ Council, a set of draft values and priorities is developed.
February 2018
At Organizational Development Day, the president presents a summary of the work done on the strategic plan. She speaks about some of the values that have been drafted and how they relate to the day’s activities.
March 2018
At a town hall meeting, the president describes the work that has been completed on the ISP, providing the campus community with an initial look at the plan and answering their questions. Together with David McLaughlin and Ken Ristau, from Institutional Analysis and Planning, the president presents the plan to two groups of senior leaders. In addition, she reports on the plan to the Academic Governance Council, seeking feedback and explaining aspects of the planning.
April 2018
The president presents the Integrated Strategic Framework to the Board of Governors and updates them on ISP development and timelines for its completion. The framework, values, mission and vision are supported by the Board.
May 2018
In her regular, online column, the president discusses the university's plans for drafting the ISP, encouraging involvement from the campus community.
Draft the foundation plans

During this second phase of the planning process, committees are formed to lead the creation of foundation plans in four key areas:
Academics
Resources
People and culture
Community
The Executive Committee, with input from Deans' Council, strikes Plan Development Committees for each area. The committees advise on relevant issues as needed.
An executive officer provides introductory material to each Foundation Plan Development Committee. The committees will use the introductions to outline changes needed to implement the strategic directions, advising on relevant issues as needed.

The Academic Plan Development Committee finishes deliberations. Draft of Academic Plan completed. The Deans review the Academic Plan.
Finalize foundation plans and draft the Integrated Strategic Plan
February to March 2019
Using the draft foundation plans to guide their work, a Strategic Planning Group, consisting of Executive Committee and members of Institutional Analysis and Planning (IAP), guide the finalization and integration of the plans so that they are actionable, achievable and aligned with each other and with the Strategic Framework. The resulting document is the draft of the Integrated Strategic Plan.

Review, approve and finalize
April 2019 to September 2019
Consultation is a key component in this final stage of the process. Members of the MacEwan community, as well as external stakeholders, are given a final opportunity to review, discuss and provide input on the draft Integrated Strategic Plan (ISP), ensuring it fulfills the needs of the institution moving forward. The goal is to present the ISP to the Board of Governors for final approval in September 2019.

The past five years
Strategic planning at MacEwan University is currently being guided by the 2014–2019 Integrated Strategic Plan, which focuses on our transition from community college to university. In 2019, this plan will be replaced by the new plan, which will be in place from 2019 to 2024.
