Debbie assumed the role of Acting Dean of Libraries in May 2014. She has witnessed remarkable growth and development of library services since joining MacEwan University Libraries in 1997, largely as a result of the introduction of baccalaureate degrees.
Debbie has been actively engaged in librarianship for more than thirty years, working primarily in post-secondary libraries. Prior to coming to Edmonton, she was employed at the University of Saskatchewan for six years as Head of the Education Library, and for six years preceding that, she was a reference/collections librarian at the University of Lethbridge.
She holds a Master of Library Science from the University of Alberta, and a Bachelor of Arts from Western University. Debbie has held a number of positions at MacEwan University Libraries including Head, City Centre Reference Department; Chair, Library Services; and Associate Director, Learning and Instructional Services. She served as Acting Chief Librarian from July 2009 to September 2012 and prior to her appointment to the position of Acting Dean, Debbie was the Associate Dean of Libraries.
As Acting Dean of Libraries, Debbie undertakes a leadership role in the planning and delivery of high quality library services and collections to meet the teaching, learning and research needs of MacEwan students, faculty and staff. Debbie manages an annual budget of almost $8 million and has overall responsibility for the operation of three campus libraries.
