AGC Executive Committee
Executive Committee of Academic Governance Council (AGC) has a coordinating role in managing the academic affairs for AGC and its committees and may elect to flag for AGC’s consideration questions or issues of particular interest or concern in the documents directed to AGC for approval. AGC Executive Committee also ensures that AGC committees have their full complement of members.

The Executive Committee of Academic Governance Council (AGC) has a coordinating role in managing the academic affairs for AGC and its committees and may elect to flag for AGC’s consideration questions or issues of particular interest or concern in the documents directed to AGC for approval. AGC Executive Committee also ensures that AGC committees have their full complement of members. In this regard, Executive Committee is responsible for:
1.1 setting the agenda for meetings of Academic Governance Council and to ensure that relevant background material is available to AGC members prior to meetings.
1.2 making decisions on behalf of Academic Governance Council in the event of an emergency or the inability of AGC to meet in a timely manner.
1.3 making decisions on behalf of Academic Governance Council in matters specifically delegated to it by AGC.
1.4 reporting any decisions made by Executive Committee on behalf of Academic Governance Council to AGC at the next scheduled meeting.
1.5 considering all major reports to be submitted to Academic Governance Council prior to distribution to AGC.
1.6 considering and reporting on policy matters relating to the Academic Governance Council.
1.7 reviewing the committee structure of Academic Governance Council as required and making recommendations for the consideration of AGC.
1.8 recommending to AGC candidates for the standing committees and AGC members to other MacEwan University committees where AGC representation is required.
2.1 Executive Committee is accountable to Academic Governance Council.
2.2 In the circumstances referred to in Sections 1.2 and 1.3, Executive Committee shall possess all power and authority of Academic Governance Council.
2.3 Executive Committee may not contravene any policy of Academic Governance Council.
2.4 Decisions of Executive Committee as referred to in Section 1.2 are subject to review and confirmation by Academic Governance Council at its next regularly-scheduled meeting.
3.1 All Executive Committee members shall be members of Academic Governance Council.
3.2 Executive Committee shall consist of the following:
a) the Chair of Academic Governance Council* (ex-officio)
b) the Provost* (ex-officio)
c) the faculty Vice-Chair of Academic Governance Council (ex-officio)
d) one faculty member from each Faculty/ School
e) one professional resource faculty
f) the Students’ Association of MacEwan University Vice President Academic
g) one Dean/ Associate Dean
*Note: The President and Provost are ex-officio members of Academic Governance Council, as recommended in the AGC Review Report (2014). The Chair of Academic Governance Council responsibility is fulfilled by the President.
3.3 The Chair of Academic Governance Council (AGC) shall serve as Executive Committee Chair.
3.4 The Vice-Chair of AGC shall serve as Executive Committee Vice-Chair.
4. Term of Office
4.1 Apart from ex-officio, members shall serve for one-year terms.
5. Operations of Committee
5.1 The Academic Governance Council Secretariat is the office of record for Executive Committee.
5.2 The Academic Governance Council Secretariat shall provide administrative and resource support to Executive Committee.
5.3 The Committee shall meet at least once before each regularly-scheduled AGC meeting.
5.4 Quorum is set at a simple majority of voting members. Ex-officio and School of Continuing Education faculty members do not count toward or against quorum.
5.5 The Vice-Chair will act for the Chair in his/ her absence.
5.6 Executive Committee minutes shall be provided to Academic Governance Council for information.
5.7 Where Executive Committee cannot meet to approve a time-sensitive, but routine or previously-addressed resolution, the Committee Chair may request that a decision be made by use of electronic vote, which must pass by 2/3 majority and must be discussed at the next Committee or AGC meeting as a matter of record.
5.8 The President is the ex-officio senior administrator who provides executive advice and support, as needed.
