Mallory Chipman
is a dynamic contemporary jazz soloist, songwriter and MacEwan University faculty member. She pays tribute to a Canadian music icon with Rags and Feathers: A Tribute to Leonard Cohen. Malory’s debut album with Bent River Records includes the track “Angular Symphony,” which was awarded the Jazz Recording of the Year award at the 2017 Edmonton Music Awards.

Tom Van Seters and Chandelle Rimmer are new to Bent River Records, but not to Canada’s jazz scene, having shared stages with some of the best. Both Chandelle and Tom are faculty members in MacEwan University’s Department of Music. For their first collaborative project, they’ve combined their talents both as performers and composers.

Joshua Rager is a pianist, arranger, composer and teacher based in Montreal, Canada. Throughout his 15-year career, he has performed extensively in North America, Japan and Europe. In 2005, he was nominated for the Prix du Festival at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. In 2007, he played at Carnegie Hall with Nikki Yanofsky and appeared on her Juno-nominated release “Ella…Of Thee I Swing.” He received a commission from the European Broadcasting Union in 2009 to compose a jazz suite for two pianos entitled “Menuet and Duo,” which was recorded by CBC at its premiere at Montreal's Pollack Hall and broadcast internationally. Currently, he's an assistant professor in the jazz specialization at Montreal's Concordia University.

Bent River Records is an innovative learning lab project with an aim to respond to dramatic changes in the recording industry over the past 20 years. Driven by a management team of MacEwan University faculty and student interns, the label enables artists to access recording and promotional assistance in exchange for learning opportunities for students.
