Join the School of Business for a virtual screening of SHE STARTED IT, a documentary about five passionate, trailblazing young women who strive to compete and thrive in the ruthlessly competitive boys’ club of high tech startups.
SHE STARTED IT gives a new face to the popular image of the tech entrepreneur: a female face.
Following five women over two years as they pitch venture capitalists (VCs), build teams, bring products to market, fail and start again, SHE STARTED IT takes viewers on a global roller coaster ride from San Francisco to Mississippi, France and Vietnam. Along the way, it weaves in big-picture perspectives from women like investor Joanne Wilson; White House CTO Megan Smith; GoldieBlox CEO Debbie Sterling; and Ruchi Sanghvi, the first female engineer at Facebook.
The women of SHE STARTED IT are diverse and highly relatable, and they set a powerful example, inspiring the next generation to dream bigger, and urge today’s generation to support women entrepreneurs. There are lessons for parents, teachers, employers, investors and of course, young women and girls. Changing the status quo will not be easy. Everyone needs to lean in!
Opening remarks by MacEwan University President, Dr. Annette Trimbee. The screening will run from 5:10 to 6:10 p.m., and is followed by a panel discussion of special guests, including:
Bev Latter, Program Specialist, Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE)
Jeanne Lehman, Executive Director, Black Canadian Women in Action (BCW in Action)
