Decolonializing wellness is about reclaiming wellness practices that have been stolen, commodified and appropriated, and instead restoring what’s been lost. During this workshop, participants learn about the lasting impacts of colonization on the mental health care system, as well as tools to decolonialize one’s personal practice. Topics include: how to use culturally inclusive language, community care, the meaning of Appropriation versus Appreciation, anti-racism and holistic health.
Hosted by The Colour Factor with support from Wellness and Psychological Services and the Office of Human Rights, Diversity and Equity.
We acknowledge that the land on which we gather in Treaty Six Territory is the traditional gathering place for many Indigenous people. We honour and respect the history, languages, ceremonies and culture of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit who call this territory home.
