New CFAC Week 63: Setting the stage

January 26, 2016

NewCFAC_Week63 The Proscenium Theatre in the new Centre for Arts and Culture continues to come together. Crews have been working on the performance venue—the largest of three in the new CFAC—for the past several months, and recently, they removed the metal shoring that had been put in place to support the newly poured balcony flooring as well as the floors above the theatre. With the visually obstructive shoring no longer in place, progress on the theatre is in full view.

One of the most exciting developments is the stage. The concrete floor and walls have been poured, creating a space that’s now ready for lights, mechanical work, finishings and the imagination of MacEwan’s theatre students to bring it to life. The balcony floors have been poured as well, establishing a sense of scale in the soaring venue.

Work also continued on wall and window installation on the north side of the building. Curtainwall installation was completed on the east side of the building and curtain wall preparation continued on the west side.

Fast Facts:

  • Average manpower for the week was 224 workers
  • 13,861 m3 of concrete has been poured to date.
