About MacEwan Alert
MacEwan Alert is a mass notification system that will send both email and text messages to notify all students, faculty and staff you of any emergency incidents and actions you may need to take. Emergency incidents may include anything from severe weather and building closures, to violent incidents and other threats to the safety of the campus community..
“It’s a system we hope we never have to use,” says Jim Ross, director of Risk and Assurance Services. “But we know we need to have it. MacEwan Alert increases our ability to quickly communicate with people—whether they are on or off campus—helping ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff during an emergency.”
Protect yourself: How to sign up for MacEwan Alert text messages
Students, faculty and staff can add or update their mobile phone numbers by visiting myPortal.MacEwan.ca and following the two-step directions on the landing page. Ensure that you select Phone Type “MOBILE” when you enter your phone number information.
That’s it. You don’t need to download anything or install an app. Adding your mobile number to the system means that you will automatically receive a text message if there is an emergency on campus, notifying you of what’s happening and what action, if any, you need to take.
