Sharilee Fossum has been appointed to the position of vice-president, Finance and Administration & CFO.

“Sharilee brings the education and skills that our university is looking for during this time of transition,” said university President Annette Trimbee. “She has experience in leading organizations through change, strategic and corporate business planning, information technology and human resources management. She has demonstrated an innovative approach to leadership, and has served in both the public and private sectors. I am very pleased to welcome her to MacEwan.”

Fossum’s most recent position was chief financial and corporate officer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), the regulating body for the practices of engineering and geoscience in Alberta, and one of the largest association of self-regulated professionals in Canada, with approximately 77,000 members. Her previous roles include chief operating officer with the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association; vice-president; corporate services and chief financial officer with the Alberta Environmental Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Agency; and executive roles with Edmonton Northlands, including interim president and chief executive officer.

“As a lifelong learner, I value the opportunities that post-secondary education provides,” said Fossum. “The vibrancy and energy of students is palpable! I am excited about working with the faculty, staff and students – and about contributing to the positive impact that MacEwan will have on our community now and in in the future.”

Fossum’s wide breadth of experience encompasses senior positions in complex organizations with multi-stakeholder interests – from crown corporations (AIMCo, ATB Financial, Farm Credit Canada) and government (Alberta Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Service Alberta) to private industry (IPSCO Inc.). She is committed to community service and currently sits on the boards of Farm Credit Canada, Alberta Enterprise Corporation, the Alberta Jubilee Auditoria Society and TELUS World of Science Edmonton.

The committee’s membership represented a diverse cross-section of the MacEwan community: the Board of Governors, senior academic and non-academic administration, faculty, non-academic staff and a student. Following an extensive process with a large pool of high quality applicants, Fossum was the committee’s unanimous choice as the preferred candidate.
