On January 8, third-year Bachelor of Science student Kylie Schubert received a historic honour for the MacEwan Griffins when she became the first MacEwan student-athlete to be named U SPORTS Athlete of the Week, just a day after being named Canada West first star of the week.

“We've certainly had some tremendous individual performances in all our years but team results really make a difference,” said Ken Briggs, Griffins women's volleyball head coach. “The last few years we've been right in the hunt. That shows the hard work from all the athletes and coaches over the last six years in Canada West is paying off.”

Kylie, the team’s setter, is fifth in Canada West in assists (442) and in assists/set (9.40) for the season.
