While studying at MacEwan University, Darryl Glen could be found just about anywhere, lending a hand whenever possible. As part of the Fall 2013 Convocation ceremony, Darryl is being applauded for his efforts as he receives the President’s Medal for Academic Excellence and Student Leadership.
“I love MacEwan and I pour a lot of time into not only my studies, but also a wide variety of extracurricular activities,” says Darryl. “I do these things because they’re rewarding in their own right, but being recognized for my efforts makes it that much better.”
Darryl founded the university’s Swing Dance Club and served as an executive of both Campus Alpha and the Accounting Club. He has also been an avid volunteer through the university’s Ambassador program, for which he emceed MacEwan University’s first Convocation dinner, helped to host the first Graduate School Fair, and provided a guided campus tour for delegates of the Campus Alberta Quality Council.
In addition to contributing to the enhancement of the student experience, Darryl has also shown academic achievement, maintaining a high grade-point average in the Asia-Pacific Management program.
Next up, he is finishing a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in accounting, which he will complete in April 2014. He has also secured employment starting in September 2014, but in between, he says he plans to travel and dance as much as his budget will allow.
“It’s encouraging,” he says of receiving the medal. “It tells me that sinking time into studies, volunteering and leadership is both appreciated and recognized.”
“I will continue to develop myself and others as I graduate from MacEwan, and I look forward to my career.”
Congratulations to Darryl and all of this year’s Convocation award winners!
