Research Support Fund

The Research Support Fund (RSF) is a Government of Canada program that assists Canadian post-secondary institutions with the expenses associated with managing research projects that have been funded by the three federal research granting agencies: CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC.

Costs covered

Eligible institutions receive an annual grant through the RSF to help offset the central and departmental administrative costs related to federally funded research. These indirect costs of conducting research, such as expenditures outside the direct project costs and items expensed from university operating budgets, can present financial challenges to an institution. The RSF alleviates these challenges by funding items such as:

  • Salaries for staff or students who provide administrative support for researchers and their projects

  • Training costs for workplace health and safety

  • Costs related to the maintenance of libraries and laboratories

MacEwan University allocations

By investing in staff who support faculty in project management and the dissemination and promotion of research, more research funds are available for internal faculty grant awards. With more faculty able to access funding for small research projects, our research capacity is increased. In the past three years, MacEwan University has benefited from the following RSF allocations:
