Ombudsperson

The Student Ombudsperson is an independent, neutral, confidential and accessible resource for MacEwan University students and alumni. The ombudsperson is not an advocate for individuals but for institutional fairness, and is available for advice and support on issues and decisions arising from admission to graduation.

The ombudsperson will, in a fair and impartial manner, assist you in understanding and clarifying policies, processes and decisions that affect your enrolment. Conversations and meetings with the Student Ombudsperson are strictly confidential unless there is a potential for serious harm to an individual. All students and alumni have a right to consult with the Student Ombudsperson and you will not face retaliation for consulting.

You can contact the ombudsperson if you:

  • receive a decision you don’t understand or are unhappy about

  • are unsure about the next step in the appeals or grievance process

  • receive a decision and you don’t know what to do next

  • want to initiate an appeal but don’t know where to start

  • are thinking about appealing a decision

  • do not understand an institutional process
