Broaden Horizons

Building community at home and abroad

We are a learning environment, inside and outside the classroom.

Living green

Our namesake, Grant MacEwan, was one of the original champions of the green movement. We honour his legacy by taking our commitment to the planet very seriously. Our many sustainability initiatives include an Office of Sustainability that educates and supports the MacEwan community in "living green".

Every year, MacEwan actively participates in global sustainability initiatives including Earth Week. And our Students' Association hosts the annual Common Ground Week -- featuring films, speakers, workshops and social events that highlight local solutions to issues affecting our lives and our environment.

And we are setting an example with our Single Sustainable Campus initiative which will see all our programming and services moved onto City Centre Campus, making the most efficient and effective use of our resources.

Going global

Study abroad

The world's at your feet. Study in Europe. Immerse yourself in the culture of Mexico. Join study tours to Japan or China. Or intern in an international organization in Washington D.C. Several of our programs offer the opportunity for you to experience the world as part of your studies. MacEwan International is the first stop in your travels.

Reach out to the world

The Students' Association is a driving force behind globally focused projects at MacEwan. Their initiatives include:

  • Walk for Darfur, an eight-day walk from Calgary to Edmonton to raising awareness for the atrocities occurring in Darfur and funds for Warchild Canada, and
  • Project HOPE, which sees MacEwan students raise funds to support a community building project in Latin America, and then travel to the chosen community to participate in the building project.
