Metis Education Foundation Metis Scholar Awards

Criteria

To be considered, the candidate must: - Be enrolled full-time (taking a minimum of 9 credits per term) in any certificate, diploma, applied undergraduate degree, or undergraduate degree program at MacEwan University; - Demonstrate financial need; - Have a minimum GPA of 2.3 in the previous fall semester; - Be a Canadian Citizen; - Provide proof of Metis heritage, with at least one of the following: * Photocopy of Metis Nation of Alberta membership card (which can be obtained from the Metis Nation of Alberta), or a membership card in any of the following Metis organizations: Metis Settlements of Alberta, Metis Nation of Ontario, Manitoba Metis Federation, Metis Nation - Saskatchewan, Metis Nation British Columbia; OR * Photocopy of parent's/grandparent's/aunt's/uncle's or sibling's membership card in any of the above named Metis organizations; OR * Proof of Metis genealogy - Submit a letter explaining to the Selection Committee how it will benefit them in achieving their educational goals; - Not be receiving a Metis Nation of Alberta Labour Market Development sponsorship; and - Not be a registered or treaty Indian. Priority will be given in the following order to students enrolled in: 1) Undergraduate degree or applied undergraduate degree programs 2) Diploma programs 3) Certificate programs

Selection of Award

Recipients will be selected by a selection committee comprised of: - 1 representative from the office responsible for student awards - 1 representative from the MacEwan University Aboriginal Education Centre - 1 other representative from MacEwan University - 1 representative from Rupertsland Institute Successful applicants will be notified via e-mail. Committee selections are final, appeals will not be considered. Typically given out in the Winter term.

Disbursement Criteria

- Must be enrolled full-time. - Must be in good academic standing. - Must provide proof of Metis heritage prior to disbursement of funds.
