Film Night with the Writer in Residence
Close-up, a fiction-documentary hybrid, uses a sensational real-life event—the arrest of a young man on charges that he fraudulently impersonated the well-known filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf—as the basis for a stunning, multilayered investigation into movies, identity, artistic creation, and existence, in which the real people from the case play themselves (98 minutes; Persian with English subtitles).
This is a free public event hosted by the English department—all are welcome. MacEwan's 2018-19 Writer in Residence, Jaspreet Singh, will introduce the film; a short discussion will follow the screening. Popcorn will be served.
