Economics of Social Change: Workshop Series – Transitioning to a New Economy

Wed, Oct 30 2019

Communities around the world are looking for economic strategies to address growing social and environmental issues.

This workshop will explore a new economy that prioritizes local empowerment, the voices of equity-seeking communities and greater economic justice.

Learning outcomes:

  • Learn about the historical context and evolution of our current economy and community economic development.

  • Reflect on your personal beliefs about the role and nature of economic systems and policies.

  • Consider ways you can support greater economic democracy through your own work.

Facilitated by: Jorge Sousa, University of Alberta

This event is part of a five-part Economics of Social Change workshop series to explore connections between the local economy, community development and social change. Each workshop is facilitated by local practitioners, introduces hands-on tools and features guest speakers who are working on the ground with community economic development and economic justice issues.

Sign up for the whole series (recommended) or individual workshops.
