Teaching and Research Interests

Dr. Bocatto's main topic of research is rooted in the epistemological view of the critical theory of society. His PhD thesis, called “Learning and Managing Citizenship: Understanding the Case of Participatory Budget in Brazilian Municipalities,” provides information about the preconditions and characteristics of organizational settings in which critical learning is enacted. The findings are being used by policymakers to orient participatory and deliberative processes and by business managers as a “how to” for implementing such a learning atmosphere. More recently, Dr. Bocatto is interested in the understanding of the design, elements and connections of innovation ecosystems that foster the creation of high-tech startups and their supply-chain, bringing diversification, wealth creation and distribution to the province of Alberta.
