Introduction to LPN Perioperative Nursing

Students are introduced to fundamental perioperative nursing concepts as established by the Canadian Council for Practical Nurse Regulators (CCPNR). Anatomy and terminology specific to perioperative nursing is reviewed. Parameters for assisting the anesthetist in the maintenance, monitoring and management of anesthesia are defined and roles of the perioperative Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the surgical team are explored. The patient as a unique individual is examined in relation to the perioperative experience.
