Medication Management

NURS 0161

Medication Management is an inter-professional system requiring competent health care providers to integrate and apply vast amounts of knowledge into practice. Health care providers must also stay current with how the constantly changing medication innovations, overlapping and evolving scopes of practice and the diverse settings where care is provided impact medication management systems and their roles. This module explores the components of medication management including medication reconciliation, ordering/prescribing, dispensing and delivering, preparing and administering, patient teaching, monitoring, evaluating, and documentation. Safety considerations will be discussed throughout the course with indications for high error prone areas in each component of the system. Considerations for special populations are reviewed.
