Perioperative Nursing for Licensed Practical Nurses

Certificate of Achievement

This program is approved by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). LPNs are responsible for maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room, monitoring the patient during surgery and providing care throughout the process. The combination of coursework and in-person labs provide you the hands-on skills you need to move your practice into the operation room.

Instructional Hours

120 theory hours, 60 lab hours, 420 clinical hours

Admission Requirements

Must be actively licensed in Canada as a LPN. Must present current immunizations and clear security check prior to clinical preceptorship.

Additional Requirements

Resume with current experience within an acute care medical surgical unit.
Non Alberta residents must provide a letter from employer or sponsor confirming a cooperative clinical placement.

For new applicants, effective July 1, admission will be to the Perioperative Nursing Program for Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses. Please visit to submit an application to the combined program.


There is a $75 application fee. Course and/or material fees or special fees are listed with individual courses and do not include supplies unless otherwise indicated.

Completion Requirements

The passing grade is 75% for all theory and lab courses. The clinical course requires successful demonstration of clinical competencies.
